He is Ahmed bin Al-Hussein bin Al-Hasan bin Abd us-Samad Al-Ja’fy Al Kufi (i.e born in Kufa). He lived the most successful days of his life in the court of Saif ad-Dawlah Al-Hamdani the ruler of Halab (Aleppo). He was one of the greatest arab poets and was brilliant in the use of the Arabic language. As he was on his way once in Baghdad along with his son Muhammed and his slaves; he met a group that was sent by someone who had been lampooned by Mutanabbi’s poetry to kill him; and a fight ensued during which Al Mutanabbi was killed along with his slave and his son in Al-Numaniyyah close to Deir Al-Aaqul west of Baghdad.
